Good news for the people of Chicago. Homicides are significantly down for the first time, since 1965.
Although, one homicide is too many but this is a testament to the combined efforts of state, city, county, police, and violence prevention agencies working together to help transform lives on a daily basis.
As of October 27, 2025, 356 of our beloved brothers and sisters have tragically been killed in 2025 (compared to 504 in 2024). With two months remaining, we have an historic opportunity to close the year with less than 400 homicides for the first time in 60 years (i.e., 1965), marking a critical milestone on our path towards a much safer city. -Jalon Arthur, Chicago Cred
